SRAM X-9 rear mech sticking

A new one for me - yesterday and this morning my rear mech wouldn't shift to the top end of the gear ratios (as in the smallest "cogs") - after a bit of faffing and freeing, I seemed to get it going again but it's a pain.

Basically seems to "freeze" - cables are all very clean and lubed, rear mech itself is clean and lubed too, spring looks okay - any ideas anyone?!

Sounds like it could be crap in the cable housing - if it's allowing you to pull the cable through to shift up - but not letting it release down the block?

Chaka - I think it might be the mech itself not springing "down"

Cables are clean (I'm a bit of a cleaning nerd) and look fine as far as I can see but will look again.

It seemed okay on this morning's ride (and got my PB too!) but definitely not quite right.

If I change when stationary, the cables go loose under the top tube but do not "pull" through from the mech end - is that any help?!

Still a mystery - might have to be LBS time...

My X7 has done this a couple of times, all I ended up doing was giving the mecha good dousing in cleaner, then when it had dried whacked some grease on the spring and around the outside of the mech where the pivot pin is located.

It's been fine ever since, although it did look a bit messy at first after the next ride the excess grease was gone adn the Mech has been sweet for the last 3 months :D

Steve - will give that a go. Got some spray grease that might do the jobs.

    Cheers! :D
