I've not had my '06 Marin Eldridge Grade long and I absolutely love it. When chosing my new bike I didn't really take any notice of the warnings of the Eldridge having a low bottom bracket, but I have since noticed that it is a bit of a pain! The bike came as standard with a Truvativ Firex crankset which seems like a nice bit of kit. But on my last ride I seem to have hit the outer ring on something solid and it has mashed up a few teeth and bent the outer ring. How easy is it to replace just the outer ring, or is it worth buying a new crankset and then keeping the other bits as spares? You can get a new Firex system for £54.99 with new bottom bracket which seems quite reasonable, whereas my local bike shop have quoted me nearly £40 for just the outer ring with postage... not so good.

What do people think I should do?! i have T minus 2 weeks to sort this out as I have a trip to Afan planned!

Cheers
