Best tyre combo for trails and downhill

Just wondered what people think would give best mix of grip, life and puncture resistance, partly for mate's Scott Nitrous 30 05 and when I have to upgrade for my Alpine Trail 05, both use 2.35 at the mo.

Cheers, Ben.

I use Maxxis Ignitors, I don't think you'll get an ideal tyre for trails and downhill but these are somewhere in between.
If it's not a Yeti, it's not worth riding!

Minion 2.35s. DHR 60a rear, DHF 42a front.

I'd say it depends what you ride most? If your doing more downhill minions are the way, more uphill and I'd look at the high roller. Isn't the 05 Alpine trail a ladies bike?

    I also use the above.
Single Ply 2.35 Minions weigh about 850g and grip like nothing else, especially the front Super Tacky 42a.
  • Thanks for your opinions, really appreciate the info and getting back so fast - cheers, Ben.
The Alpine Trail is not a ladies bike slimer.

Oh sorry Ben my mistake, I had heard that the Alpine Trail 05 was designed for the rider who likes to 'avoid puddles' and came in a variety of pastel colour options with a pink seat cover? Lilac spokey dokeys??
  • No Slimer, you are sadly mistaken, my bike is Titanium silver and I don't 'avoid puddles'. If you have any lilac spokey dokeys on your bike, I would remove them as they are likely to be water traps and could rust your spokes, perhaps causing a wheel to collapse and fatally injure you, which of course would be tragic.

Na, nothing could rust DT spokes! Did your 'marin alpine femme' come with wheels or did you have to store it 'up on blocks'?
