Campagnolo Bottom Brackets (Sealed)

I am trying to find a Campag English thread 111mm bottom bracket to fit a Veloce chainset and they appear to be very thin on the ground.
Are there any comparable alternatives in a similar price range? I am guessing at some point Campagnolo will stop making them as this type of BB will not feature in the range from 2008.

Unfortunately, they are rather thin on the ground. This is because Shimano decided to use the Japanese JIS standard instead of the international ISO standard. You can still get Centaur, Chorus and Record BBs fairly easily, but beyond that it's Ebay. Miche might make one, but as they do track stuff, which generally means short axles, it's unlikely.0

OK thanks. Will hunt around on ebay.0

Thanks fast as fupp. There will be a time when I have to go Ultra-Torque but my chainsets are not showing any signs of major wear and an outlay of £15.00 for a trad BB rather than the £80 odd for the Ultra-Torque set-up is appealing.
Being from Yorkshire, I like keeping hold of my brass.0 -
lets hope its a long time off before we have to go ultra-torque!'dont forget lads, one evertonian is worth twenty kopites'0

You still running square taper then? There seems to be loads of Record BB's flying around.0

yes- ive heard too many bad things about ultra-torque- its ok to change bearing every couple of months if youre a pro but im not!
and the shimano version- hollowtech 2-leaks as well- i can vouch for that'dont forget lads, one evertonian is worth twenty kopites'0 -
Aye, I have heard various comments on forums about the robustness of UT. They do not English winter too well apparently.
I guess the outboard cups are not that expensive but even so, you should not have to change them. What are your experiences with the Hollowtech ones?0 -
same as the campag- they leak!
the blurb is great saying theyre xx% stiffer than the old version but thats not much good when you dissemble them and out comes rusty water!'dont forget lads, one evertonian is worth twenty kopites'0 -
I've bought a few pre-ultra torque chainsets and bottom brackets for my bikes. The potential lack of square taper bottom brackets is a concern though. Should I buy spares or will the Chorus + Record BB's continue to be sold?0
-
I'm after a square Record BB myself, please don't tell me they're gonna be in short supply!
I am not sure of the best place to get one though. My Record gset is from 2003, would it matter if I replaced with a later one, still square taper mind.0 -

The 111mm symetrical bracket is the widest used spec in the range for both double and triple for everything from Centaur downwards...though from 2007 onwards only on their triples....no need to fret just yet.I'd rather walk than use Shimano0 -
Hi CS,
Have you tried Mike at High on Bikes ?

He is very helpful and tends to stock alot of Campag older components, drop him an email, he is usually quick to reply.

Thanks broachboy.
I ended up buying one from G Butler, but at £15. If I had gone to HighonBikes, I could have saved myself a couple of quid. Damn.
Next time defo though.
I bought a saddle from HoB not so long back from ebay. Good service, arrived next day. I did not realise they had an online shop as well. HoB are now bookmarked. Good prices on pre UT chainsets as well.
Giant Mancp, HoB have some Chorus ones and G Butler also have Record BB from 04.
I noticed that GB also have Ambrosio for £30. Not sure about their quality though as I have never used them.
What started all this off was me servicing my winter bike. I noticed about 1mm of play in the cranks and felt/heard a slight grind when spinning the cranks. I took out the BB, de-greased and re-greased all threads then struggled to put it back it. At first, I thought I had striped the threads in the BB shell. I cleaned them again and everything slotted back into place thankfully.
Tightened everything up and still play, so I have concluded the BB is shot (the grinding gave it away really).
The BB has done around 1000m, albeit in the UK winter but I would have expected it to last longer.0 -
Try campyoldy.com they stock very old campag stuff...bit on the pricey side mind you0

I wonder if this is a nod to leaky units on the new UT system?
