Not sure whether this has popped up anywhere else on the forum, but a trawl of some of the Chinese media for work turned up this;
Meng Jie, a sports devotee from Heilongjiang Province, poses with his self-designed Olympic ring-shaped bicycle in front of the National Grand Theatre after arriving in Beijing on the bike January 22, 2008. Meng left Yinchuan of Northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region at the end of last October for his nationwide tour to promote Olympic spirit.
:shock:

And there is now a video on the beeb too; http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/7537229.stm
I love the line about using the handlebar mounted crank being "like a deer running from a panther"!
Time to start planning your own version??
