Sorry to be posting another 'which mountain bike' thread but I do need some advice.
I have received my bike to work voucher £1000 and have a short list of bikes.
The bike will be mostly used for commuting and occassional offroad at weekends.
Im after a hardtail which is both light and quick.
Im 5ft 11 and weigh 16 stone+ (weight training) -dont know if this has a bearing on the outcome
The voucher is for halfords but I beleive I can still order any bike from them
List: Specialized Rockhopper Pro Disc 2009
GT Zaskar Expert
Boardman Pro
Focus Killer Bee
Any comments would be greatly welcome

If I had £1000 to spend on a bike it would be a Rockhopper or a Giant XTC.Giant XTC 2.5 '08
Felt Virtue 3 '10
Giant Defy 2 '11
Giant Terrago Disc '07 - Convereted for CX
Fit Team Park Bmx '080 -
Test all four, that is some shortlist.
As much as I adore the Zaskar, it aint the best value, but you wont go wrong with it's no nonsense philosophy.0 -
Take a Look at the Orange web site, there are Three Hardtail bikes
in the range that would suit your needs
I would personaly stay away from the Boardman Pro only
because what other people have said about Halfords
and not the bike.0 -
I've had the Boardman Pro since May and love it, I wanted the Spesh Rockhopper Pro but Halfords couldn't source one so I got the Boardman. Glad I did now.
Grantway, he's got to get it from Halfords anyway as that's where his voucher is for.0 -
I've just got a Cube LTD Race which retails at £829. It's very well specced for the money and a great but largely unknown alternative to the mainstream makers. I changed the tyres and pedals from the original spec but that was just down to my preferences. Well worth a look.0
