Hi Guys,

Going out for the Transrockies this week - what are the regs concerning bike lube and CO2 cylinders in the hold of aircraft.

Any experiences of Globespan anyone ????

Cheers

Martin

  • Hi there.

It's not the airline but the security people who'll scan your box at the oversize baggage counter that will give you trouble. You may slip through with c02, but if they spot it they will pull you up. SImilarly for any lube that is considered flammable.

    Cheers, Andy

Any pressurised gases are a no-no - they are forbidden in any form. You could risk it, but these days they X-ray most hold bags and CO2 cartiridges are easy to spot - your bike box might get delayed or not arrive at all. spares are easy to source in the US anyway. Most bottle lubes are OK but some aerosols may be classed as flammable too.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • Cheers guys - CO2 cannisters a no - no then :(
