Cross Threads on BB Shell

I have somehow managed to cross the threads on my BB shell when trying to re-install the cartridge BB (campag Veloce). I can turn install the BB so far by hand before it can go no more. I do not wish to force it as I reckon it will cause my damage. An inspection of the threads on the shell looks as though they have crossed.

Not good.

Can the shell be re-tapped/threaded? I think a trip to my LBS on Monday will be in order.

yep the LBS should be able to chase them out. as long as they are not too bad.

  • Fingers crossed. A check of the threads looks as though there is no damage but there obviously is.
  • I took another look today and managed to clean out the threads. This did the trick and the BB is now secure in the frame.

Thankfully, when I first tried to install it, I did it by hand, otherwise the threads would have been mashed.

    Thanks for your input.
