Tyres - Spesh Roubaix Pro - any good ?
Hi, looking for a bit of tyre advice. I am waiting for some hand built wheels from Ribble and need some new tyres for them.
I like the look of the Spesh Roubaix tyres, anyone have an opinion on them, are they harsh or comfy, grippy or not, how about p******e protection ?
Thanks.

Hi,
I would strongly advise against the Specialized Roubaix Pro tyres - I had them on my Roubaix Elite for about two months until I decided to replace them with Contis GP4000S.
The tyres are comfy enough and are very light BUT this is offset by the very poor (absence?) puncture protection... I had 5 in two months' worth of regular riding, and the tyres are already shattered - probably due to the amount of glass / small rocks (yes, even small rocks...) which needed to be removed from the tyre!
I've been impressed with the Contis so far - the ride is harsher but feels safer somehow (especially on wet roads).0 -
Hi, thanks for the feedback, so much for the flak jacket p++++++e protection then :?
Maybe i need to look elsewhere. He is not the messiah, he is a very naughty boy !!0 -
Mine have been okay and taken a fair amount of abuse.
One thing to be aware of is that debris does tend to work itself deep inside the tyre. It's vital that after puncturing, you inspect the tyre closely and don't refit it until you have found and removed the offending article.
They're not lightening quick and there are grippier tyres for dry weather. However, they're fine as an all-round training tyre.0 -
A friend of mine went from Roubaix Pro on her bike to Conti GP4000S and said the change completely transformed her bike - felt quicker, better handling, etc, etc. Would appear that there are better tyres to be had then the Roubaix Pros.0
