im a roady(i know where scum),i have £1000 spend on a mtb through the cycle to work scheme there using cyclescheme.com.....been looking at a scott scale 30 or a 08 GIANT Anthem 2,yes i know there more than 1000 (but whats £150 when your saving 45%).has anyboy got any recommendations for this price range..oh looking at trail rideing.

    I've only tried the Anthem, fantastic, very racey if thats what you want.

    I've switched to mtb from road (injury forced) and not regretting it one bit

    Depends on what you want from the bike. If you're planning on racing or doing "old school" type xc ie not particularly technical then those bikes are ideal. If you're looking for a bike that is more of an all rounder for local riding and trail centres you will find these will eventually limit you a bit and you'd be better off getting a 5" travel bike. This will be heavier and slower on climbs but far better on descents and gnarly stuff.

    I don't think that the Scott 30 is a trail bike, it more like a XC, Race bike.
    I think for trail riding the Giant is better.
    Do you want hardtail or fullsus?
