Buying wheels on the interweb thingy

I'm thinking of buying a couple of new wheels for my ageing Ridgeback Genesis and there seem to be some decent wheels available from various websites. Are there any pitfalls I should be wary of? And, perhaps more importantly, is it likely to be as simple as; choose wheels, fit cassette, fit tyres, stick in rear drop out, ride away? Would I need to worry about things like axle length and spacing?

I have had excellent well priced handbuilt wheels from Merlin Cycles. One thing to note is that they will probably come without rim tape unless you ask for it (and you need it) usually costs a quid per wheel.

Pretty much, plus rim tape as mentioned. You need to specify the rear hub as shimano or campag, as required. I stripped my hubs to check they'd greased the bearings properly but that is probably a bit OTT ;)
