Looks slick 8) Is the mid ring the same as on a 08 XT crankin that its made from carbon and steel?

Middle ring is stainless teeth, on an aluminium ring.

Using technology from the current generation of XT and XTR chainsets the triple will come with a composite/steel middle chainring that doubles durability over the standard middle ring and improves the shifting performance.

Lets just say a lot less than retail as I work in a bike shop

it's a mix of Hone/XT/XTR IIRC, designed for all mountain use.
