Chain and rear Mech

I took my Mongoose Tyax Super out to Gisburn forest at the weekend and whilst out one of the chain links broke and jammed in the rear mech. It has bent both the derailleur and the hanger and since i will be buying new ones i was thinking of upgrading them.
I havent got a fortune to spend but have looked at the Sram X-7, will this be fine with my SX-5 shifters, also which chain, i have had a look at a few different Sram chains but which one is the best to go for, or is there a better make to look at?

X5 is good enough, and a 951 or 971 to save a bit of money. Many top end bikes don't even have the 991 lol.0

KMC chains and Connex chains are very good! my local bike place rates them over Sram!
