Creaking cranks! ARghhh!

Hi,
I've had my bike a couple of years and it's now started creaking at the crank. it's only when I put the power on (most of the time) but I'd like to stop disturbing the wild life as I go down trails with it. I'd like to know how to silence it.
It's XT M761 with external bearings
