Damaged chainset? How damaged is damaged?

Only done around 35 miles on my gt avalanche expert, but have already noticed that the truvativ blaze chainset doesn't seem to deal with things very well. Gear change is smooth and perfect on the rear, on the front, not always so, (most of the time its fine though. Will have a free service at evans in a few weeks as cables etc probably haven't "bed in" yet).

Quick question is,

i've noticed that two of the teeth on the large ring have the tips missing (not next to each other), and what's left of those teeth is bent and probably affecting gear change. A few others have minor damage. The only thing that may have touched them is the occasional branch/twig that i've run over when speeding through the woods (never bottomed out or anything though, or noticably hit anything). At this rate i'll have lost all the teeth within a month and I only do about a mile each way through woodland each day.

Is this normal? Surely they should be a bit more robust than this?
