Speedplay pedals, are they good?

Speedplay pedals seem to answer all my gripes about the Look Keos I've just bought. From a design/function point of view they are very appealing. Double sided for one thing.
I see they are pricey (especially the cleats) but are they recommended here?
They say that minimum float and a large platform aren't necessary.
Carlos Sastre uses them along with a few other big names in the T de F.
If i decide to swap there will be some hardly used Keo Sprints for sale in grey.

yes, they're excellent and if you do want to limit float you can get the zero versionspm0

I'm a recent convert. I used to use SPDs but bought a set of Zeros due to the greater angles of float that they provide.
The only downside is the rate at which the cleats wear, and the cost of replacements. Get a set of coffee shop caps, as they'll prolong the cleat life when you're walking around.0 -
Love mine and have found the cleats to be very hard wearing especially combined with the cleat covers.

the coffee shop caps only prevent the metal outer plate from getting scuffed up when you walk about - the important part of the cleat is the metal spring that actually clips into the pedal. unless you walk around on gravel or something the spring won't get worn just from walking about as its recessed but only from actual use on the pedal (which is why you should lube it every couple of rides). i do use coffee shop covers but only because it makes walking easier and prevents muck getting into the cleat if walking on grasspm0
