Hey all ive decided to buy a new push iron but im going to hold out till I can get a 2008model in 2009 sales. Do the sales start January like everything else or do they start to go on sale later on?

Any advice would help...

Cheers All :D

dont expect any prices to drop much as prices next year will be higher.

imo you can get a great price online but it'll never make up for the level of service you get from buying in a local shop.

I've bought online several times, pauls cycles actually, who do some good deals. And more recently i've bought in person in evans cycles (due to C2W).

With evans everything was built perfectly, you get to try which is very important! a useable warrenty! free first service, discounted further services and suspension services, free ride outs, etc etc etc etc.

Dont think i'll ever go back to trying to find a discount online for a bike.
other peoples opinions obviously vary though.

Commencal Metas from Merlin are a reet bargain at the moment if they still have your size
  • Yes those on Merlin were nice the one I liked also turned out to be the most exspensive and out of stock in large. Does the C2W scheme cost your employer anything? I might see if I can get one through that as the savings calculator on their website said a £1200 bike works out about £750! Is that right?

    Yup.

doesn't cost the employer anything really other than time for an admin person, also they will be out of pocket as they pay for the bike and then you pay them back over the year.

They can then claim tax back (they are allowed to keep this if they want, although usually deduct this from what you owe), and you pay for it before VAT and NI are taken from you wage.

Technically speaking the company own the bike, and you lease it. after 12 months it is theirs to do what they want with. The government recommend that they sell it to you for 5% of the original cost. But i'd hope most places let you keep it for free as you've paid all the money (this is however seen as a perk I think, hence the government recommendation to sell it to you).

Sadly Merlin add 10% on to sale bikes bought through cycle to work to cover the commission they have to pay. Also with most c2w schemes you can only get a grand on the voucher so you have to pay the rest and don't get the benefit on it. Probably still worth doing though.
