Flat bars in the city...

So, I've switched around, the 531 with drops is now living in Bucks, doing that end of my commute to the station, and the Sirrus is now in London.
Observations:
1. Flat bars do make life easier in terms of seeing hazards etc. in town; they are slower but that only impacts on the open road
2. It's nice to have brakes that work in town (v-brakes rather than the tatty 531s hopeless Centre pulls, c. 1985)
3. Drop bars are faster on the open road
4. I'm never buying an aluminium framed bike again, the ride quality is shocking. Give me steel anyday, and s0d the weight penalty!
Now all I need to do is convince my other half to allow me a frame respray on the 531...

OK, Carbon, hmmm, affordable? For a commuter? Nope, not for me. Ti, perhaps?
