New bike - broken already, argh!!

Well I finally decided which Hardtail to go for from my LBS and in the end I went for the GT Palomar as im mainly using it for commuting, getting around in general and occasionally going into the rough stuff.
Got it yesterday, proper chuffed and loving it all day, was on it for about 4 hours, then again today most of the day when SHOCK, the chain come off, bent the cogs back on the gear, scratched the frame and twisted the chain, so now it well and truly doesn't work, why does this kind of stuff always happen to me! Thought I'd put the chain back on, pulled out into traffic and the thing damn near killed me when it pop offed again right infront of a chav-filled cavalier.
Now to get the thing back to the bike shop, which is going to be a nightmare in itself as I don't drive, ARGGHHHHHHHHH. :evil:
