Hi,

Just wondering whether anybody on here uses a PDA for GPS instead of the usual Garmin etc, solutions? I was thinking about getting a PDA + bluetooth GPS however I can find little information on people using this type of system.

Thanks

Not quite a PDA, but lots of the newer phones have GPS, and Nokia are trying to market this to cyclists with their sportstracker software. There was a review in the washingmachinepost recently

...but he didn't like it as much as the Edge 705. one thing not mentioned in those reviews as I recall is that the edge is fully waterproofed, even with a rubber plug over the usb socket. Its designed for the rain. Your phone isn't, and neither are most PDAs; so mounting it on the handlebar might not be such a good idea.

Mates just got one of these:

    http://www.qstarz.com/news/news-20080620.htm

    Here's what he said:

"A tiny GPS data logger, fits on a keyring - shows you were you were

The..greatest..thing...evah...It truly is. I used it when I came to work and then when I cycled home at lunch time. The Travel Recorder application that reads the logs
then plots them on google maps (in the app) and then you can press Play and watch yourself as an animated ball/arrow carreer about the roads, going the wrong way down one way streets, going on the pavement, all the bad things you do. Plus it's telling you the
elevation and distance travelled, speed graphs and stuff."

Works with bikely too I think..

I'm thinking of a setup like this:

    Otterbox 2600 - Waterproof case + handle bar attachment (http://www.otterboxshop.com/uk/p_otter_ ... x?i=105665)

    QStart BT GPS (http://www.supergps.co.uk/qstarz-btq818 ... -AyCY9p4z&)

    O2 Xda IIi (http://www.my-xda.com/devices/xda_IIi.jsp)

Probably looking around £150-180 depending on eBay prices, but hopefully should be decent. My only concern is whether the battery life is good enough on the XDA.

    POWER MONKEY!!

These will extend the life considerably.

After my Edge 305 failed again I am now usibg the "SatMap" which is proving to be a far better navigational tool....
