Replacing a reservoir cap

Probably sound daft this but I'm still not very technical.
The left hand brake reservoir cap for the Shimano M535 disc brakes on my 2006 Spesh FSR XC is scratched to bits.
Can I take it off and just plonk a new one straight on without having to bleed the brakes at all?

And, in fact, done.
Had the new one for about 8 months and kept forgetting to ask :roll:0 -
pssst ;-)
Honestly this bike mechanic lark is bloody easy when you know how!
With the disc brake, is an open system, so in a physics senxe, you dont change any pressure in the system - just a cover,0 -

Yeah, but it's the 'when you know how' bit that I'm missing.
If I can find someone to invent a BIG RAT à la Joe 90 would you be a willing volunteer?
