I Think I Broke My Bum

So hows this for weird. Today I went out on a 90 mile club run with about 5000ft climbing. I wore the same bib shorts I have worn for other longer sportives and club rides.

I felt a bit uncomfortable every now and then like my A$$ was burning. The feeling wasn't harsh but was a bit unusual as I have never had the feeling before.

I kept on riding and when I got home I had some chow and jumped in the shower..

Well... When I let the water run over my bum cheeks it burned a hell of alot - Very Very sore like wincing pain.

I jumped out the shower and had a look in the mirror and I have the exact shape of my chamois burned onto my a$$

Its red raw like very severe nappy rash. I don't know why the hell this has happened.. I have not changed anything. I ride the same amount every week. and was meant to be riding tomorrow..

What could have caused this? I am pretty sure the missus hasn't changed the washing powder or anything.

anyone have any ideas? I am seriously gutted

Have you started using a different chamois cream?

Nope I dont use Chamois Cream but the missus wasnt 100% sure if she washed them after I was on the rollers the other night so it could have been the sweat that was left in there.

It's the hot weather making you sweat and leading to chaffing. Keep your arse really clean, use cream - either Assos or, my personal favourite, sudocrem. The latter has looked after my bum very well on 600Km audaxes.

Washing your shorts in natural soapflakes can help too.

+1 for sudocream - sorts out nappy rash every every time. This is what you have, almost certainly. Caused by chafing/skin overheating/minerals from sweat. Similar to what runners experience on their inner thighs where their shorts rub! Will go in 2 days if treated.

I broke my bum too but slightly differently.

I think one side hangs over the side of my saddle because all my bibshorts are worn in the same place on one side. Seems to be getting worse too because today after my club ride today it felt like my bum had actually taken the shape of the edge of the saddle and formed a ridge which has taken a while to soften.

I'm wondering if it might be caused by one leg being longer than the other as I feel a lot more pressure on the foot on the overhanging side and get sore toes after long rides too. Might try experimenting with insoles before starting another saddle hunt.

Or try some LeWedges. I use Assos cream and it's great.

Well there's your problem - what on earth are you doing not washing your own kit? Couldn't you tell if they were washed? Don't you have separate places for clean and dirty kit?
