Cadbury's Boost - cycling caviar ?

70 miles in and I am starting to bonk. Luckily a BP looms and although I intend to buy a banana, these can be hard to find at the 'Wild bean Cafe'...so I plump for a Boost (it says 'added glucose' ! and it tastes like Ferrerro Rocher minus the nutty bits) and within moments I am flying again. So good did it feel (I'm sure fellow bonkees will know the feeling of how you can almost feel the new food in your stomach doing you good !!!) that I stopped at the next petrol station and had another.

Now I know this is not nutritionally advisable, and yes I always carry that extra 3 kgs I vow yearly to lose, but MAN it tasted ggod.

SO my question is : Can anyone trump the mighty BOOST as a mid-ride ,err, boost ?

I bonked horribly on the way into Plymouth near the end of an Ilfracombe to Plymouth ride I did with my Dad earlier this year. I stopped off at a Sainsbury's petrol station, and was actually shaking slightly and felt light headed. I had a bottle of chocolate milkshake and a Snickers bar. Within minutes I felt like I could have cycled back to Ilfracombe! It was like rocket fuel for cycling.

Don't want to hijack the post but isn't it weird the food you crave when you're hitting the wall.

    Favourites include:

Cheese, celery and cadbury button sandwich
Chicken crisps and mayonnaise with peanuts in a small bread roll
Mars bar mini cut up and mixed with cheese and onion crisps and humous on white bread

All washed down with fizzy original Lucozade, of course

P.S Have tried ALL these post 70+ mile ride and they hit the spot :D

Mr Kiplings Country Slices or high octane cake as I refered to it for a while. It's the nitrous oxide of cake!

aha ! Someone who shares my riding philosophy...although I usually hold the beer until AFTER the ride in the knowledge that one usually leads to another...

never bonked on a bike. isn't it a little uncomfortable, even on a tandem?

I need to try harder as I never used all my energies.. that or I'm too fat. Lager shandy always goes down a treat in the summer though. Then another one!
