Using multiple sets of wheels

I'm thinking about getting a second set of wheels, partly for a bit of bling and partly because changing tyres for different conditions is getting old.
I'm a bit concerned though about cassette/chain wear between the two sets (I'd have each rear wheel with it's own cassette), do people out there already running 2 wheelsets use 2 chains or just try and keep the wear similar between the two?

either swap cassettes, or run two chains, with really hard chainrings.0

I've just changed my wheels and kept the old ones for the purpose you describe.
The person that gave me the idea does it themselves and they say that as long as you change the chain as soon as it's worn then it'll be fine. So I've bought a Park Tools chain checker tool...
So far old chain has worked fine on new cassette for 30 miles - but that's as far as I've got with the testing! My guide to navigating using the Garmin Edge 800

I thought about this and bought wheels & slicks for my MTB for swapping. Rarely got round to it though. Sold them to a mate for the same reasons, he never got round to using them either.
Much better idea is to get another bike...0 -
Think of a situation where you've put drier/summer tyres on and you've had a really wet weekend. That's happened this summer and it would have been nice if winter tyres were just "ready to go".
But I have a feeling that's what I'll end up doing... selling on old wheels! My guide to navigating using the Garmin Edge 800
