Fulcrum Racing 7's + Shimano 9-speed
Anyone running such a setup? Do you need spacers for the cassette? Do you use the Shimano casette's lock ring or is one supplied.
Having recently replaced my chain and the cassette on my Allez's primary wheels (Aksiums) I decided my back up wheelset (the original Alexrims AT400s) was no good as spares for the service car should I need to call it out. Ordered a set of Racing 7's which claim to be SRAM and Shimano 8, 9 and 10 speed compatible (Wiggle processed my order before I found someone selling Aksium rears only - doh! :roll:)
I'm on 9-speed Shimano on my hack but will I need anything else?

No, it'll be a 12-25 Ultegra 6500. It's not a new cassette but it's only done a few hundred dry miles (and when the previous chain was in good nick).0 -

No spacer needed for my 9-spd Ultegra Cassette on my R3's.
Would be really interested to hear your thoughts on the difference between the Allez & Izoard. I have an Allez & would like an Izoard!!
Looking at your bike photos side-by-side it looks like you have the Izoard set up much lower at the front / racier. Does the position feel very different.
I like the Allez but want a step up in class and for a lighter bike. However, I want it to be OK (from a comfort point of view) for 9hrs Alpine Sportives...

I can't really comment on the comfort of the Izoard on long runs as my longest ride on it has been a fifty miler but I have been surprised how comfortable it is; we're still getting acquainted.
My Allez was my first and only other road bike so while I thought I'd get some payback comfort wise from the carbon properties, the tighter angles of the Izoard did have me a little concerned on that first ride. It turns out to have been uncalled for. I love it and, on my usual 20-50 mile rides, on the Izoard my legs and bum feel better and the smile on my face is invariably wider.
What I would say is that I did have a proper fitting for the Izoard. Regrettably the Allez was a bit of a haste buy with a sizing chart, a quick sit on in a shop and a online purchase. The frame is a size too big which kind of explains the differing positions (though I do want a more upright position on it). I've progressively reduced the stem length on it from 110 to 90mm.
I've been going out at dawn to avoid the majority of the bell ends that inhabit our roads but I do intend to take it out on an all day ride soon.
I did go a bit daft (upgrading the wheels to Racing 3's, having my DT's converted to Campag) and went over my original budget (SystemSix, Mortirolo, Tarmac, Roubaix models) by a clear grand but I'm really, really happy with it so far.0
