Just beaten my best time on my 13 mile commute by a whole three minutes (yay me :D )

I've put it down to the fact that I hunkered down and went all aero so that got me thinking. Any of you guys use aero bars and would they look too ridiculous on a full suss mountain bike?

Opinions please. . .

And another thing. . . how do you get the little horizontal line above your signature on this here forum thingy?
All work and no play makes Jack a dull, repetitive, anti-social, highly-stressed, narrow-minded, out-of-condition, sickness-prone boy.

I am starting to use mine quite a bit now, they take some getting used to but I wouldn't worry what they look like on a MTB just go with what is right for you.

    1. what have you got against bubbly chocolate?
    2. no I don't use aero bars for commuting. If you are training for time trials fair enough otherwise it's trying far to hard...
    3. "ridiculous on a full suss mountain bike"? Well, my bikes are evidence that I beleieve in form following function not the otherway round (for commuting anyway) but in this case I have to make an exception. It will look completely ridiculous. Put the money towards a decent secondhand roadbike.

...I'm with Jedster, form and function. Aero bars are wrong on a full susser put 'em on a road bike. Aero bars are for going straight and fast, not good or really safe in traffic...

they are mucho money. but I have em.
I like the options of positions it gives me. plus I can get aero and I need to on one gear sometimes. Not on a fs though, you're mad.

Function over form though, aye. You'll understand when I post a pic of my "urban warrior" bike. (mate's words, not mine. I wouldn't be so geeky.... hmm sounds cool tho)

also think of the penalty for use in THE GAME.. better be on form!

ps found out t'other day that they are ace not only for holding helmet, but make a bril tray to carry yer fish 'n' chips home on. £50 well spent!

Do you always go for gear levers at the end of the bars, or stick with the standard ones?

In the past I've been known to use aero bars on commuting bikes, and found them very effective. If you have long(ish) open sections of road then they can be worthwhile. However, if you cycle in busy traffic or on roads littered with traffic lights I think their use isn't a great idea.

tend to find I use the aeros on wide open flats or downhills.. when there aint much traffico around.. no brakes
