My bike has recently been in for it's 6-8 week free checkup, I hadn't notice until this morning but both innertube rings (the ring that tightens down on the valve) are missing, is it bad to run without these?, why would they have been removed?

I find them useful when pumping up a flat tube, stops the valve pushing back into the rim as you attach the pump.
Go back to shop and ask for them back

I take them off any way, they only make the bike heavier

I've got tonnes of them, I find they come in handy for things other than putting on tube valves - I used one a couple of days ago to get a brake caliper to set right on my Langster.
    I like bikes...

i have found that if you have them done up they can cause the valve to rip of the tube if it moves in the tyre...

Great, as long as they are not essential. The front one used to come loose all the time and cause a slight rattle (took me a while to work that out... :D ).
  • i bought a tube and the valve didnt even have a thread.
that was when i realised they arnt needed and just come loose and rattle!
