Shimano 105, 10speed chain and cassette, chain is knackered after 2500miles.
Is this normal, or has this worn out too quickly?

The terrain I ride is mainly off-road, dry and dusty in the summer, muddy and $#!tty in the winter. Bike is cleaned regularly, clean the chain with on of those rotating brush widgets, I do not strip the lube off, just wash the crud off with soapy water, and relube once dry.
I have been using the white lightning wax lube, which doesn't pick up too much crud, and doesn't wash off too easily.

...for off road sounds about right to me...

Sounds quite good, actually, given off road is included. Depending on a lot of factors the chain can need replacing any time over 1,000 miles.

I've just ordered new chain and cassette for mine. When I look at the prices I realise why 105 was a good choice. DuraAce at £90 a time, two or three times a year, plus the chain ...

Or, for those with serious cash the Ti Record at over £260! Matched with a Ti chain that could be up to £1,500 a year on chain and cassetes!!!!

For serious cash cassettes, check out the poshbikes titanium aluminium carbonitride cassette, that had better never bloody wear out for the price!
