Does anyone know the weights of these two bikes?
From the ones i've ridden I need a 17" but I hear on the forum that they are in short supply?
Is the new range due out soon as I am at the beginning of the ride to work scheme so not ready to buy right now!?! Sorry for so many ? in one go.
Thanks

I cant help you on the weights I am afraid, as the RH and SJ bikes have a dozen variants between them with widly different weights. You need to decide what models first!
But I can tell you that new models normally appear in the shops by the end of October, often earlier, which means that September on you start seeing discounts, and July > November bikes can be in short supply as shops and suppliers run down their old stock in anticipation and new stuff is in transit. normally full stock is restored in time for Christmas. That said, sometimes you'll struggle to find certain models in the shops before december if the are a big change from last years version (more than a paintjob and a component tweak) and the manufacturer has had a long lead time to gear up for building the new bikes en-masse.A Flock of Birds

Wife has gone balistic at price of Stumpjumper so it looks like a Rockhopper!
Therefore is there much of a weight diff. between the RH Disc, Comp disc and Pro disc?
Main diff. seems to be the forks?
Thank you for your quick reply!0 -
The Tora on the base R/H is a heavy fork. The Recon and Reba of the Comp and Pro are a fair bit lighter. Wheels also get upgraded as you do up the range and weight will be saved here. If you can get away with buying the Pro then go for it!"Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0

Simon - we have both - a 2007 Stumpy Comp and a 2008 RH Disk.
I'd say the RH Disk (base model - about £600) is about 4lbs heavier, has slightly over wide riser bars (going to stick narrower flat bar on it), has more relaxed geometry and is easier to hammer down hills. The Avid brakes are very good. Tora forks are very very damage resistant but a bit on the clunky side and heavyish.
The Stumpy is definitely a gazelle up hills, is much more agile/responsive on singletrack but you really need to be on your toes when going downhill - it doesn't let you get away with mistakes and likes to throw you off! The Avid 5s are a bit more adjustable than the Avid 3s and a bit lighter but the 3s seem to need less tweaking to keep them sweet.
The Fox forks on the Stumpy are near faultless - super plush, super light and pretty stiff.
I usually ride the Stumpy but I do like the RH too.0 -

Trouble is, the '07 Stumpy FSR is very similar to the '08 xc FSR - which goes for £900-1300.
Though, I'd still favour the '07 Stumpy FSR over the '08 xc FSR. M5 frame, instead of M4. And better finishing kit.
But, I would say that, as an '07 Stumpy FSR owner!
Buy the SJ, and tell the wife it's a RH. Sorted.Stumpy, Rockhopper (stolen!) & custom SX Trail II - that should do it!0 -
I'm assuming he's after a HT though as it's between that and the HT Rockhopper?0
