firstly, there are just far too many damned advertisement breaks and it seems like literally no time and that horrid horrid tune plays as ITV4 go to the commercials. I just switch over to ( the awesome ) Dave TV for a minutes so as I dont have to watch them.

Then on ITV4 they announce that the tour de france 2008 theme tune can be downloaded to mobile phones now , the thought makes me feel ill

what do you lot think of the tune ?

i have it as my ring-tone during the TdF

    - I did last year too - someone on here (or perhaps C+ forum as was) ripped it to an MP3 for me.

Some of the breaks during the live coverage seem to be as long as some of the programme sections. During today's live coverage I just muted the telly and sodded off into the garden to catch some rays when they made their far too frequent appearance. About 4/5 minutes and it was safe to return wihtout fear of any exposure to the pointless adverts. I can only assume that the airtime on ITV4 during the day must be dirt cheap. The breaks in the Formula 1 p!$$ me off but the TdF coverage is in close company.
When I wasn't sunning myself I was, like you, watching a spot of Dave or catching a bit of the World at War.

I know!! It's awful isn't it, almost as bad as Pinky and Perky's crappy commentary, but at least we're seeing it on without Sky i guess

I like the theme tune, but prefer eurosport coverage.

Back in the day, I seem to remember they used Kraftwerks "Tour De France" as a theme tune. Why go changing?

Todays life coverage was awful unless you like adverts for dog insurance, dog charities, no-fee "sue your employers for when you slipped over at work" solicitors, debt consolidation cause you cant be bothered going to work, old peoples life insurance adverts every 2 minutes. etc.

I had it on sky plus so when i started watching it had already been on for an hour or so - by the time i fast forwarded thru the ads - i was almost on live tv by the end of the show. Its great that we have the choice of two stations to watch this live now - anyone remember years back when we were lucky to catch a round up on world of sport ? God i am old ...
  • Yeah the ad breaks do seem very long and frequent, and that tune gets overused.

Last year I swore I'd get a HD recorder and just record it then skip through the ads. Didn't do it though.

    There's always next year....

    Hi there.

There do seem to be a lonnnnnnnnnnnng ad breaks on itv4... My instant advert skip button only goes forward 3 minutes... These add breaks are usually 4 minutes long!

I seem to be watching ITV4 mostly this year (convenient time), but I have enjoyed the live coverage I've seen on Eurosport much more.

    Cheers, Andy

I tend to watch ES live and ITV4 highlights.

Been very impressed how few ad breaks there were on ES. And they also appear not to go away at a crucial point in the stage.

I've actually been enjoying the coverage (perhaps because I filter everything through a DVR). To provide some perspective, I've watched some years on US TV, and believe me the ITV coverage would win an Oscar in comparison. During one hour of coverage there was literally (as in I timed it) more cycling shown during the adverts (lots of USPostal stuff) than there was during the program, which was primarily devoted to in-depth interviews with Lance Armstrong's missing testicle, etc. Be grateful!

Get some perspective guys. The fact we are getting LIVE TdF covergae on a UK, non-Sky channel is outstanding. Maybe not enough of you had to put up with the Saturday round up of the week on WOS, or the 30minute channel 4 highlights package. If BBC ever decided to do the right thing and cover the race then great, but I'm willing to put up with ITV generating revenue through adverts if it means seeing the entirety of an epic queen stage of the tour.

And i have the tune as my ringtone!

I concur with alanmcn1, I'm just happy it is still on free tv, and I don't have to (wouldn't do anyway) pay £30 a month to watch it.

I am warming to the current theme tune, but the one mentioned above, from late 80's, was, and is the best.

I would have that as a ringtone, and I don't even do ringtones.
Anyone techie enough to make it ringtoneable?

yup, the sheer amount of ads on itv4 is such a javelin in the butt for sure. its like you hear the commentary going cadel evans has crashed, omg !! , and theres a war starting on the edge of the road, frank schleck has punched kim kirschen in the gob and his mother has entered the fray wielding her rolling pin .......................and just then that fekking tune starts and its hi we are real solicitors, not those other solicitor impersonating ones out there, have you had an injury at work................................aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrgghhhhh

the riding is great to behold, but those ads and that crummy tune just get my back up

you need to transfer it to the phone somehow - either with a data cable or using Bluetooth - it won't sync with itunes i'm afraid.
