I'd just had a ride around the village on my bmx and was putting it away when I noticed a bump under the front of the down tube. Remembered an accident I had the other day and it seems that the headtube got bent back and so I now need a new bmx frame. awesome! not.

Then Tuesday night a I went for a little local ride on my marin quake and it was going really well, nice weather, the trails were that sort of not too dry and dusty and not too damp but juuuust right. Even found a new little track that was great fun.

Then a twig (i emphasise the twig part, look at your keyboard cable, no bigger than that) got sucked up into my rear mech and proceeded to bend the rear mech and the mech hanger. keeping in mind this is a freeride hanger thats also the drop out too - not exactly a little piece of metal.

Anyway I have to cut the ride short (sorry lexie) and head home. Not all is lost though as a friend asks if i want to go for a drink in the local town. brilliant, so i head in on my singlespeed pub bike (on-one inbred, slick tyres etc) lock my bike up and hear a hissing sound coming from the front tyre. YAY a puncture 4 miles from home and no repair kit! so thats all 3 bikes out of action within 24 hours.

So today at work i set about finding parts for my quake.
Had i mentioned that I needed them today (wednesday) or tomorrow at the latest? no? oh well thats because tomorrow - thursday - I'm setting off on a little road trip around wales riding at brechfa, climach-x, coed-y-brenin and coed llandegla. what wonderful timing.
While looking at parts I feel that while i'm at it i'll upgrade to a maxle on the rear instead of a QR. Obviously none of the local shops (marin dealers) stock either type of drop out that I need - QR or 12mm maxle. Luckily i have a bit of a marin contact and he was able to get a maxle kit from atb which is very amazing of him.
All i need to do is buy a conversion kit for my hope pro II hub and a new mech.
head on to CRC, new X9 mech, hub conversion, sram power links for the trip, new gear cables, spare brake pads. enter card details. all lovely. next day 1pm delivery ticked.

Get home and check CRC website.
It would appear as though i did not click the very final button so none of those parts are arriving so i'll need to spend £20 more on a mech than i was planning and I have no rear wheel to use.

Anyone know of a bike shop in swansea that sells the hope pro II rear 135mm/12mm maxle conversion kit?

    Or possibly worse
It's always the way, things come in 3s etc.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

Try Wheelies in the Uplands in Swansea. They've always been spot on when I've been in and do stock a fair bit of everything.

thanks bikedevil but after getting the new drop outs and putting a mates rear 12mm pro II wheel in, it seems like marin have, as standard, got a 135mm gap at the rear but the maxle upgrade they sell is a 150mm. God knows what i'm meant to do there.

he let me borrow one of his bikes for the weekend though, marin 140 - rock springs with pikes up front and full xtr....

dirtbiker, if you're going to be up north wales, you should try Revolution bikes in Bangor. they may have a dropout in stock. They had one for my 10 year old marin!
