Narrowest tyre on a Mavic 729

I've signed up for a 55 mile XC ride for charity (mate), its the Ty-Hafan Taff Trail Challenge. Thing is my "lightest" most XCish bike is my '06 Spesh Endruo. I run Mavic 729's on it and Maxxis 2.3 Highrollers. I don't have a problem using this set-up but I'm thinking it's all pretty much towpath / tarmac so I'm thinking of a set of ASDA special hardcomp narrow tyres to help with the old rolling resistance.

Anyone have any experience of running narrow rubber on such a wide rim? I'd like to run something like a 1.75 semi-slick ideally.

Any advice gratefully received.

  • rim is designed for 2.3 -3.0 tyres so I wouldn't put a 1.75 on there.

From Mavic site, for EX 729 rims:
    ETRTO compatible size: 559 x 29c
    Recommended nipple length: 12 mm
    Recommended rim tape: 559 x 18 x 0.6
Recommended tire widths: 2.30 to 3.00
    Valve hole diameter: 8.5 mm
From this I think you can't.

Maybe it would take a 2.1 tire, but MAYBE, I don't know. Correct me someone. :?
