Strange design on Deore mech...can someone explain?
Hi,
I'm not into mtb's but I bought a new Deore rear mech for a mate of mine and it's set up in a very strange way:
You know a rear mech is, by default, without any tension in the cable, set to run on the smallest cog? Well this mech is by default, set to run on the biggest cog. Then when you click the gear lever and put tension in the cable, the mech travels DOWN the cassette towards the smallest cog.
Have I made some schoolboy error in setting this up or is it some kind of new design?
thanks for any help,
Ramanujan

it's the design, called a rapid rise. The idea is that you can quickly get to the lower gears with your finger, rather than your thumb. Some like them, most don't.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0
