    Others have managed with when the entire army was lining the border. Trouble was the troops were on the wrong border, the Maginot Line was built to repel German troops crossing the Franco-German border, as well as the Italian border. Cunningly Hitler came over the Belgian border....

    The route up the Col du Telegraphe was actually traced as part of this defence plan, so something good came of it....

    There's a good story about how Singapore was captured from the British back in the day. The British were all lined up to defend the port, and the Japanese invaded elsewhere and snuck up behind them on bikes!
