I want to get a new bike computer, one with altimeter / distance climbed etc - any recommendations?

The Garmin units are great- you can get a Edge 305 relatively cheap now the new ones are out. If you can afford one, that is what I would go for. Combines a barometric altimeter with auto-calibration off the GPS and you can download your route and view elevation profile, etc.

No personal experience of them, but I know the top end Blackburn Delphi has an altimeter included (6?).

I use a Garmin 60CSx for everything from hiking to driving.

It has just about every gizmo going, can mount on your dashboard, handlebars or belt, and rather than talking to you, it beeps and farts when you get to a junction.

It does tracks, waypoints, road routes, best road routes, altimeter, hunting and fishing times, contour maps (I stuck in a 4gb card and got the whole of the Ordnance Survey Contour Map for the UK on it), calculator?!?, 3d road view, downloadable, waterproof, shockproof, colour screen etc etc etc etc ad infinitum.

Best buy I ever made. The only thing it doesn't do is calories and heart-rate, but hey, if it's still ticking, I'm still alive. :D

I've got a VDO MC1 which does the job. Current altitude, altitude gained on a given ride and gradient, plus all the speed, distance measurements.

I've got one as well and for me it has huge flaw, settings are either metric or imperial and I'd like a mix of both. I want speed/distance in miles and climbing/temperature in metres and degrees C and it can't do it.
