top pull front mech with STIs for cross bike
Hi
Building up a cross bike, and want to ideally run the cables along the top tube. Will be using Shimano STIs.
I need a top pull front mech, but as far as I can tell, MTB front mechs will be the only top-pull ones, but they wont work with road STIs. I also cant work out the difference between top-pull and top swing.
Will be using a double chainring, prob a compact with something like 48/34. Given that the left STI is a triple, will it still pull enough cable to use an MTB mech?
Has anyone got round this or had any experience of doing this?
thanks in advance

I had this problem with a tandem and I ended up fitting a normal road front mech, I attached a wheel from a lady's bike back brake (fits on the seat clamp) to the bottom mudguard mount and routed the cable around it, seams to be working OK. If I have no problems I'll get a threaded eyelet put into the seat tube below the mech which will neeten up the job and give the cable a straighter line0
