bought the cannondale F4 Z for 539£
spec:
sram X7 kits
tora 302 air fork
juicy 3 brake

the one I ordered is with headshok fatty ultra fork and shimano crank

phoned them, offerd me £50 voucher to make it up. should I take it or sent the bike back?

I like the bike I received, but headshok fatty is like 900 grams ligher than the tora.

btw
the pedal and the tyre are crap, Hutchinson spider tyres makes hell of noise and got no grap on road . very boaty as well and pedal simple does not work properly and very dangerous to use.

gotta change bought, then should be really sweet. through bit on the heavy side 13.6kg on the scale

update : 17/08/08

hello everything thanks for your advises.

I decided to keep the bike with wrong fork and the "good gesture" voucher.

but things just didn't end there.

just under one month of normal ride -- half a mile to work every weekday and no off road no trek. the fork is leaking oil. I woke up in the morning today and found the front tyre is wet. the oil is dropping from the damping control.

the is getting annoying. coz I did not only get a wrong fork and it is a faulty one.

I dropping the company a email discribed the situation , and maybe a call on monday as well. I guess I am quite unluck on this bike.

it is very conveniently broke just over the 28 days refund period.( 30days since I received the bike) otherwise I will argue with them for a exchange or refund.

Just work out how much money (if any) you lost with the spec they sent you, if it works out more than 50 squids send it back, if not take the voucher

thanks for your reply , but the cannondale headshok has not got a retail price anywhere.
the tora worth £150 in shop but you can get on brand new for half of that

would they take the bike back and change it to the specs you ordered? surely its your right as a consumer, then take the £50 voucher off them for inconenience
Why use brakes? Falling off is a much quicker way to stop

    thanks for ur reply

I was told there was a typo error. and it is a complete bike sell as it is. so left me the only option of senting the bike back or take the voucher.

    Typo error??
others might know better but could you get trading standards involved?
    not as described/advertised?

Sorry to heat of the mess up, how frustrating! Shame on Evans for messing up your bike purchase.

Like the other poster said I'd be ringing them up asking them to resolve it and then compensate you on top. If they won't then obviously you've got to do what feels right for you but I would be tempted to send it back and take your business elsewhere.

Either way I'd be ringing them up and amecably seeing if you can come to a resolution.

no, as evans have done everything required to resolve the situation. If they refused a refund then yes.

so the question is down to --

does the spec different worth the £50 ? and is the bike I got now worth £539 minus £50 voucher?

    can anyone please answer that?

Yes I'd day it was. Although the fatty fork is significantly lighter I'd hazard a guess and say the Tora will perform better as a suspension unit. The Tora is a good fork, often recommended on here.

Off the cuff I'd expect a bike with the spec of yours with Toras to cost £500-600 full retail.

Compare against this as a benchmark

as above, tora is better, but heavier. If its light xc, the headshok may suit better. Either is good depending on your needs.

    thanks everyone.

I have decided to keep the bike and take the voucher. I got a good deal anyway.

I think the cannondale F4 z is on the par of the rockhopper disk .nearly identical spec.

I am happy with the bike,

If you bought this bike off the internet , i beleive you can return the bike for a full refund within 2 weeks of purchase. As internet shopping has different rules to buying from a shop

thanks the thing is it takes time and energy. you will have to sit at home all day wait for a collection or take the bike boxed to post office ( it's a huge box, size of a bed )
and I and happy with the bike and the price .

just undated the original post. so please give me some advise if you are more experienced on this . thanks a lot
  • Hi,

Had the same problem with my Tora fork. Apparently it's a fault on one of the seals which the manufacturer knows about. Get your dealer to repair it un der warranty or they may have to send it back foir repair.

    Mike.

Have to go through evans to start, should be a quick and easy warranty fix.
  • Good luck.. my dart had that fault but rapidly escalated into requiring replacement.. internal seals failed one after another it seemed.. got another fork in the end..
