Alpe d'Huez Stage 17 Office Sickie Roll Call

Anyone else considering pulling a sickie for this day of racing? I’m thinking of opting for a time-honoured classic; the emergency dental appointment. I may, unfortunately, neglect to tell my employers that the appointment is with Dr’s Liggett and Sherwen at the ITV4 Alpe d’Huez surgery.

Remember, kids, sickies are bad and may get you sacked...

    I don't do sickies.

It's like taking EPO to win a bike race. :P

Me and my partner both work from home sometimes. She had Wednesday slated for a day of working at home, and we have only space for one person in our study. I've claimed to her that I'll be spending Wednesday 'working from home' as a pretext to painting the house, in order to get her to change her plans and work in the office, allowing me to work from home. Little does she know, that 'painting the house' is in fact a pretext for 'sitting on my a**e all day watching the Alpe D'Huez stage'.

Is anybody else weaving a more complex web of deceit?

Luckily, watching sport on telly is almost compulsory at work.
  • @chriskempton.

Ha! I too plan to be 'working from home' for stage 17. :D

I work from home normally anyway. Maybe I should work from the pub on Wednesday instead...

My boss is on holiday, i've planned my schedule around a free day on Wednesday, the weather is looking good, I think it all leads to a few hours in the saddle in the morning followed by 4 or so hours watching Le Tour. Wonderful..

I have a meeting about credit card security all morning, followed by one about RFID in warehousing operations all afternoon. :x :x :x

It's enough to get me to want to throw a sickie, even without the Tour !

However, it's a bit like a visit to the dentist, you can put it off but you know you're going to have to do it sooner or later, so I'll have to be brave and get it over with.

But tomorrow is Bonette, which I did last September, so I'll WFH and see if I can watch that streamed-in and see if they go up the thing any quicker than I did

Taken day off - pulling a sicky is like taking EPO as has already been said. And as Stephen Roche said, it's the beginning of cheating.

If this were a civilised country it would be on in all city centres on a big screen.
You just have to ride like you never have to breathe again.

had the last two weeks off sick (1st sick time in 7 years) went back to the doctor today and he said if i felt up to it i could go back wednesday.
I replied "i think wednesday maybe a day too soon. Thursday might be better"
he said "don't go back until Monday then, best not to rush it".
It was hard not to let out a cheer!

  • Luckily I'm off work for the next 5 weeks (summer shut down for college), so I've been doing my best to watch what I can so far.
However, Wednesdays stage is a different matter so I said to the wife 'Why don't you and the kids (3 boys aged 2,3 & 5!!!!!) go to your parents for the day, it'll be nice' Woohooo, she's going!!!

Tempted to avoid the volunteer work I do on wednesday too. No need to book a days holiday as every day for me is a holiday living on people's taxes.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • Anyone know of live streaming from any German site?
it's complicated, my t'interweb access is via Germany, so anything uk based just gets blocked.

Eurosport Germany. Cyclingfans.com has the German Eurosport player for video with UK audio. Works fine in the UK, France and Italy but haven't tried it east of the Rhine...

I've read that line several times and can't stop laughing. Probaly not quite so funny from your point of view though.

I'm living in Sydney at the moment so get to watch every stage live at night. I was glad to have a rest day yesterday as getting oput of bed after 4 hours sleep each night was starting to get hard.

Thanks for the heads up, hadn't actually thought about eurosport online DOH!
Looks like the streaming may get through.
