I am looking at buying a used "Colnago 7005 Alloy Frame" and was wondering if it should be stamped anywhere to suggest that its genuine?

Any help appreciated

    ??

BOTTOM BRACKET IS FOR ENGLISH THREAD

I thought Colnagos always had Italian thread?

And it's got mudguard eyes - is that normal for a Colnago?

yep - the dude lives like 3 mins from my place

  • Colnago's used to have their name and/or logo cut out of the bottom bracket on their steel frames. However I to am a bit concerned that it has english bb threads.

For £25 it will probably be a reasonable winter training frame but I don't think it's a genuine colnago.

To be honest, looks to me like some one has painted Colnago on an alloy bike to give it extra value. OTOH if it stays at a low price, then it would build up into a nice training/bad weather bike with colnago written on it.

I would have expected a colnago to have a badge/transfer on the head tube.
You live and learn. At any rate, you live
  • Mine is a steel one, so this may not be relevant, but it has those little shamrock logos cut or stamped in the metal everywhere - fork crowns, frame lugs, rear brake bridge, dropouts. I guess you could fake those too - but by the time you had the frame would cost as much to make as a real one!

It looks fake to me. To the best of my knowledge, Colnago have never made a frame with mudguard eyelets. Or cable guides welded to the head tube.

P.S. They don't tend to put a clover leaf after the Colnago logo on the down tube either.

They don't do English threaded bottom brackets either.

What about £82 for this heap of junk?

At least the seller is reasonably honest here, but I've seen better frames in the tip.

  • if you get it for £25 it's gonna be great for a winter hack. Especially with mudguard mounts on. Just take off the stickers. However don't pay too much for it bearing in mind you can get ribbles offering including forks for not too much cash.

The welding on the alloy jobbie looks pretty utilitarian for a Colnago.

Clearly that is some 7005 alloy frame that's had a respray and some Colnago transfers put on it.

Colnagos don't have English threaded bottom brackets, a 56cm c to t would have a top tube of 55 cm, they put the cable adjusters at the top of the downtube...not on the head tube, their aluminium comes from Columbus, the cheapest alloy Colnago frame, the Asso, had a squarish top tube, not round.....and as for mudguard eyes and space for mudguards!!?? People that want a Colnago with mudguard eyes buy a Pinarello Sestriere!!

Edit....as for the red 'Colnago' mentioned later in the thread!!

Definitelty not a Colnago - the fact that it doesn't have a headtube badge for a start, never mind any of the other details.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Identical to the £69 alloy frame I brought from SJS about 4 years ago. From the same factory no doubt.

I suspect even the 7005 sticker is one the dude got from eBay....
