Garmin 705

My garmin 705 turns off all the time for no apparent reason; after maybe 20kms, it just decides its had enough and the screen goes black. I can then restart it and it will do another 20kms or so, but it never lasts longer than that.

This lead to me recently breaking all records because it recorded the entire distance of my ride, but only the time since its restart; so I managed 43kms in 36mins to give a quite impressive average speed of 70km/h.

This is extremely frustrating, to the point where Im considering remounting my old cateye computer just as a back up.

Anyone have any ideas why its doing this? Or more importantly, how I can sort it out?

Thanks

This was happening to mine too. Have you installed the software update? Mine has worked fine since doing so.

Update the firmware and if that doesn't work, return the unit to Garmin for replacement. I had similar issues with a 305 and they replaced it with a new unit in 24 hours.

    thank you so much!

I downloaded the updated software this afternoon and went for a 46km spin this evening; no turning off even tho it used to turn off at least once during such a distance!

I can finally enjoy the garmin now :D

Lets see how it handles a 100miler tomorrow..

I had this on my 305 and it was nothing to do with software, it happened when I went over bumps.
I also had 300mph av speed on a few rides as it did not reset properly.!!
I opened mine and it is not a very good design internally, it has a battery which is connected to pcb via an edge connector and a spring typ connector.
There are many people had same problem.
As mine was out of warranty I had to pay £55 for repair which was in fact a replacement.
