    Hi JC,

I have had both Ventos and Scirocco wheelsets on my ONCE TCR, don't get me wrong they were good wheels, but nothing outstanding. Prior to these I had Mavic Cosmos on the TCR and while I had the Campy wheelsets I longed for the build quality and smoothness of the Mavics I'd had before - I took the plunge and went for some Aksiums as recommended by a club mate, thinking to myself that wheels had a lot to live up to......

Would you believe it they are awesome - so I know they are not made in France anymore, and they are only pinned and not welded, but my god what a price for performance. When I sold my TCR I put the Aksiums on my Daccordi - Brilliant 10/10

Buy some, good price at Parker International

I have a set of Aksiums, came with a bike, good wheels but a bit heavy (no heavier than any entry-level wheelset mind.) No experience with the Ventos - what is wrong with them that you are looking to change them?

yeah - whats up with the ventos' that you dont't like?

The aksiums are (by value) a backward step really to the ventos - certainly not an upgrade anyway!

I found that from personal experience, if you don't like the Aesthetics of any component, no matter how well it works, you will never be 100% happy with it. I had the same problem when I had my Campag 3G wheelsets - there wasn't a problem with the functionality and they were good all round wheels - I just didn't like them, they didn't give my bike the look I was after, and I wasn't happy

Sounds shallow I know but the 1st bite is with the eye....

PS. I never had a problem with my Zondas or Protons

thats true actually - i know what you mean.

Personaly I love the 3g spoking - I have Eurus on my roubaix - love em.

    aren't the zonda's 3g??

    Hi GKERR4

My Zondas I spoke of were the phase 1 silver 8spd ones 8) radial front and crossed rear, though the more recent black Zonda has reverted to a radial front hasn't it ?

BTW my winter bike / commute has a Gipiemme wheelset, which has very similar Campag type of spoking arrangement, though the decals on the rims & hubs make this wheelset very attractive to the eye. Rumour has it that these wheels are made by Campag in a facility which they also use to make Fulcrum wheels?

Any truth in this rumour anyone ?

Well aesthetically the Aksiums certainly look nice (IMHO), and they work too.

I also have a soft spot for the aesthetics of Fulcrums - Racing 5 or 7s are in that sort of price range and look great. Don't have any but they get great reviews and I know a fair few people with them who like them.

The 32 spoke Ultegra/Open Pros I have just put on my tourer are actually a fair bit lighter than the Aksiums (only weighed the front so far but it was 100g under the Aksium) but aesthetically I can understand that just wouldn't do it for you!

Mavic Open Pro / Reflex :!: awesome rims and make a brilliant w/set wether it be laced to Shimano or Campag, and are 1 option IMHO I think that would suit any bike 8)
