difficult to say unless you are with them. i would guess bursts of 15 to 20mph when attacking depends on gradient and pace being set earlier on. Armstrong did the Alpe d'huez time trial at an average of about 17mph a few years back.

To make you feel better about your own climbing speed - they said on TV a couple of days ago that the climbs are taken as slow as 15 kph in places.0

In the 2004 Alpe d'Huez time trial Armstrong averaged 14.55mph although i think there was 2 minutes which wasnt on the climb proper.

This year saw the Hautacam climber at an average speed of 13.7mph by Piepoli ( :roll: ),. 13.5mph by Frank Schleck and 12.9mph by the Evans group
