Cavendish :- Right Decision ?

I think so. What we must remember is he is only a second year pro who has already finished the giro this year so it might be unwise to bring him on too early. Hopefully he is going to have a long and succcessfull career ahead of him so too much too early is really not needed. Nice to have this problem though, do we want our man to withdraw early after only winning the four stages! Never thought I would see this with a british rider! It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.0

He had already proven to be the fastest man in the race, but his chances to actually win the green jersey were limited, and they laid on the other side of the Alps. It was the right decision for himself, but maybe not this fan (who also chose him to win green in his TdF pool), or all the others.
Next year will be different. There will be no Olympics competing for anyone's attention, the ASO may get the bug out of its butt, and hopefully we'll see some of the disappointing absences return, and the Manx Missle will clash with Torpedo Tom (hopefully not in the same boring QuickStep leadout trains that controlled the final 5k of every flat stage last year).0 -
If he puts on a Rainbow Jersey in Peking, it'll definately be the right decision!
Sidi will then have to film another advert. I wonder if Bettini gets a fee everytime it's shown on Eurosport?Remember that you are an Englishman and thus have won first prize in the lottery of life.0 -

If he wins in Bejing, he'll just get tacky gold clothing to wear at track meets. He'll need to win the road worlds to get a rainbow jersey to show off next year'This week I 'ave been mostly been climbing like Basso - Shirley Basso.'0 -
well i was raging at a bbc commenter - saying people would be mildly dissapointd. the manx man just won 4 tdf stages, he is mark cavendish not mario "fat head ego" cipollini(even tho mario's weirdo skin suits were great to see). like chris boardman said mark had definitly improved over 12months.
yea i think mark was right to go & get prepd for the olympics.0 -
Nothing left to prove after 4 stage wins in his second yr as a pro, not point in killing himself over mountains that he was obviously suffering in (last in the hautacam stage)...a sensible decision...Whats interesting here is that it probably wouldnt have been his decision alone, the team managment would have had some input on this. Its all too easy to view this from the fans viewpoint ie would he have won the last stage on the champs....but hes a professional rider so it would have been counterproductive to ruin the next part of his season by dragging his arse through stages just to set him up for possibly one more stage win in Paris. He'll win plenty more stages in big tours...he doesnt have to do it all in one year0
