Summer Tyres

Now that it has momentarily stopped raining I'm looking into getting some new summer XC boots for my Avalanche. I have found the standard 2.1 Nevegals very draggy and although I won't be chucking them out I want something faster for the next few months. The tyres will be used for local trails, some of which have loose rock, some very gentle riding such as Rutland Water as well as short tarmac commutes at the weekend. 2.1 is probably the max width I can go as the Avalanche has 16mm wide rims. I run standard tubes. My current favourite at the moment is Maxxis Crossmarks but I welcome any and all suggestions.

The Panaracer Fire XC Pro looks pretty good as a summer tyre.
It does however have bright red side walls, not sure if you want that look? depends really0 -
Happy with my Panaracer Razer XC PR's although they don't have a whole lot of tread and probably wouldn't last long with a lot of tarmac riding.0

I was looking at the razers or possibly rampages, IIRC the razers are basically a cheaper racing ralph knock off, as RR wear really quickly. You might also want to look at the huchinson python, very fast and apparently hooks up well.0

I can recommend Conti Vapors. But if you want seriously fast then I have some nearly-new Conti leaders (wire bead) going for much cheapness. My guide to navigating using the Garmin Edge 800

The Vapors look good. Anyone have any experiences with them? Same question with the Crossmarks.
Another point - if I was to go with the Maxxis tyres I would have 2 compound options - 62a eXCeption and 70a. Anyone have any experience with the softer compound? How do they wear? I was thinking of a 70a on the rear 62a on the front."Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0 -
Got a similar problem here too.
Running racing ralfs at the moment and switch to nobby nics when the weather turns a bit but want something a little...grippier.
Was looking at the Maxis high roller but have heard about a "gap" in the tyres between vertical and leant over. So I am considering the Minnion 2,35 front and back - anyone got any experience of these treads? Not really active0 -
Have you looked at Kenda small block 8s? if you like the nevegals they are similar, but much much faster rolling.0

Those Kenda's do look pretty good. Anyone able to tell me how they wear?"Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0
