Has anyone cycled in the New Forest?

Hi all
I am looking to go camping in the New Forest in August.
I'm just interested if anyone can recommend a few campsites there that would have a swimming pool and some good biking runs. (Something to keep the children occupied).
I'm not sure if I can get away with my road bike or would it be a lot of off road trials and far better to take my Mountain Bike.
Is there any local routes? Is it hilly ? (If I can tempt the rest of the familyfor a hike around on the bike, they are more likely to be up for a flat ride rather than a hilly one).
What are the good towns to cycle to and from?
Is it far to hit the coast etc?
Thanks
Barry

Good news and bad........
The Nw Forest is superb cycling, butthe coast is full of retired geriatrics with the accompanying hazards.
A tatser
The best trails especially for kids are off road so mountain bike would be better. He that buys land buys many stones.
He that buys flesh buys many bones.
He that buys eggs buys many shells,
But he that buys good beer buys nothing else.

Thanks for the replies I will have a look at each of them, however I think it will have to be MTB.
