Hi, Can anyone give me some advice on a good pair of general use mtb tyres for me. i am new to the game and have just bought my self a good hardtail and have 2 really good trails near me. I have a set of mud tyres for the winter already in the form of Bonty Mud X 2.0.
The trails that I ride are usual woodland with a mixture of hardpack, dry mud (from being walked on) gravel and usual folliage. There are so many brands claiming they do this or that, I thought by asking people with experience that this is the best way. From researching it seems to me that it will either be Hutchinson or Panaracer brands. I am not a fast rider but i intent to do enduros next year and short marathons.
Any help to sort my confusion will be really appreciaited.
Thanks to you all.
I don't mind what they say... as long as they say its enormous

I recommend Conti Mountain King Protections.

    Roll well on road/track
    Grip well in the mud.
    Light.
    Last well.

Best allrounders on the market IMHO.
  • Cheers for all your advice. On researching a bit more i have narrowed (if thats what you call it) it down to these ones
    Conti Speed King Protection
    Hutchinson Python
    Maxxis Ignitor
    Panaracer Cinder
    Panaracer Fire XC Pro
    WTB Motoraptor.
The last one i have read a lot of reviews from were from people in the UK.
    Any other thoughts.

    Panaracer Smoke Dart combo?

Old design but still work very well, better than fire XC pros IMO

i'd replace cinders/firexcpro with either rampage or razer depending on riding. Drop motoraptors and maxxis. maybe add scwalbe racing ralphs/nobby nics.

hell yeah, they have been in in continuous production for 18 years for a reason ya know ;)

You might also want to look at Kenda nevegal/blue grooves, reputedly very grippy, or small block 8s, which are very fast rolling, but seem to cope quite well with a bit of mud.

Maxxis High Rollers are very highly rated as well.

There isn't really any right answer to the great what tyre debate, though there are a few wrong answers ;)
