She of this parish came 1st by quite some margin in the national 100-mile TT today: http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/kev ... 63829.html

Congratulations, Ruth but a 100 mile TT? Max Mosely would pay good money to undergo that sort of pain for 4 hours

Thanks for starting the thread, Andy and to everyone for their congrats. A tough course but the same for everybody, which is what it's all about in a championship and something I kept reminding myself as I toiled up yet another hard grind of a hill. I was particularly pleased to see Avril Swan (MI Racing) get on the podium at last after a few years of hard graft riding all the national championships and not quite making it before. Lynne Taylor (Walsall Roads CC) also got a well-deserved medal after making a big improvement in form this season. Heartfelt commiserations to Jessica Wilson Young (Edinburgh RC) for claiming 4th place yet again. She was 4th in the National 100 last year, 4th in the National 10 this year, 4th in the National 50 4 weeks ago and now 4th all over again.

Thanks Jeff. As you're acting editor of BikeRadar, can I ask why the Women's Championship got such a dismal write-up in both the event preview and the event report? That's the kind of appalling bias I've always expected of Cycling Weakly and one of the reasons I can't even bear to open a copy of the magazine any more. If BikeRadar represents the good things that are to come in the new age of rapid communications can it also be a place where female cyclists can expect some equality of treatment when they've contested a national championship on the same day as the men? I know I didn't beat many women today, but all the time the women's event is relegated to 3 lines after the interview and full report of the men's event you are perpetuating the all-pervading bias against women in the sport. Women are never going to believe this is a sport for them when they read a report like you have just published. We're just an inferior tag-on and the message is loud and clear: "we'd better mention the women, but only after the really interesting news about the men's event." :(

Excellent result Ruth, I'm really happy for you well done!. If you done mind what would your training lfor such an event look like. I don't imagine you did too many 100 mile rides although I may be wrong. Lots of short hard stuff? threshold stuff, tempo rides etc?

Nice riding and well done for having the energy to ask Jeff Jones to give the women a decent write up. 8)
