Oscar Pereiro has tumbled over the Armco and fallen to the other side of a hairpin - that has to hurt!

Ouch. Broken shoulder (I know a good surgeon Oscar) and femur!

    Poor guy.

Yup sounds like he dropped 10 or 15ft. At the moment they're saying he's broken a shoulder and femur, so looks like the end of his season at the minimum :(

Maybe I´m just a wimp (no, I am a wimp), but how can you ride a bike with a broken shoulder, but more to the point, with a broken leg?????????

The drop was 10 to 15 metres, at about 30mph.
Femur and shoulder broken. Peloton are in a state of shock. :(
    Ta, by the way!

And in racing today, 4 riders up the road with 71km to go and nearly 17 mins in hand!

Might be a quiet day for afx and his spreadsheets

You can't. He's out of the race and off to hospital.

Big crash on both sides of a roundabout - several big names on the deck, including Millar, Cunego, Vande Velde, Dean

I once broke both femurs and rode on for 70 miles. Wimps.

Prudhomme reports no broken femur for OP, just the left clav.
He hit Hunter, who also looks pretty banged up.

A bit dull this stage. Could do with recalling Ricco's rockets!

Terrible luck for Pereiro. Wasn't it him that crashed into the bush last year when Rogers crashed?

And I seem to remember him running out of road on a long descent (Tourmalet?) in his Phonak days too.

Ooh, race is waking up now.

Cadel has got to be bricking it now. You can see exactly what CSC are doing but you're powerless to stop them.

He best be feeling ok or he'll have a torrid time.

^Correction, it was Arroyo not Pereiro who crashed in the bush.

    Thunderstorms

I hope the Disco old boy can drop that waster, Pate. He's done nil work for the break.

Cadel's finding tough and Poppy's blown, once again.
Another rider who has not fulfilled his Disco potential.

What a stage. The final climb didn't look like too much but the yellow jersey's changed hands and it looks like Schleck, Kohl and Evans - still waiting for official GC - are with a handful of seconds of the yellow jersey.

Well done Gerrans, At least one Aussie can climb.
By my reckoning, the first 4 riders are within seconds of each other and hardly much more, between the top 6!

Now that was a great final 45 minutes. Schleck Jr did hell of a ride.

    F Schleck
    Kohl +7"
    Evans +8"

    Cracking stage.

Andy Schleck was the man. How many times did he drop off and come back?

They need to put a wedge of time into Cadel though

Great ride by Simon Gerrans too - The smile on his face was fantastic. Bravo! And also Danny Pate - Neither noted climbers unlike Egoi.

interesting how close bicycle racing actually is when everyone is too scared to use the cocktail of substances that have powered most of the greats of the past decade and more...this is what happens when it is clean...nobody stands out...everyone grovels...3-4% body fat, 2 arms, 2 legs, bikes all weigh the same......the Ullrichs and livestrongs , the pantani types, Indurain type rider will not be seen for a while...the trend is obvious...cleaning up the sport means close time gaps

Awesome racing today. Full marks to Danny Pate, awesome ride for a non climber. Cadel's in trouble now i fear. Great move by Kohl who i see as the danger man. Menchov couldn't hold the pace at the finale could he? Sastre also playing tired and coming through... great stuff and set for a real ding dong come tuesday.

I'm afraid with the strength of CSC, i don't see Evans coming back. he has to attack and of course, we're not sure he can, are we?

That's what i've been thinking. With the GC being so close it's his only option, but without a strong team I can't see him pulling it off.

I'm really hoping this race is decided in the mountains and not the final TT.

That was comic stuff when he gets back on his back and starts pedalling... but goes no where as his chain has come off. He's pedalling in the air.

Wow, can't believe Christophe Brandt finished that stage. He looked as if he could barely turn the pedals halfway up the first climb. Chapeau.

i think this was a good day for cadel. Schleck needs at least 2 minutes on him for the final time trial and i dont think he will get it with only 2 stages left. should have tried something on the first climb of the day

So he could ride 100km's along the flat to the next mountain? Erm....

Today's final climb wasn't *that* hard. Cadel will have to be very good for the next 2 stages.
