Bike Trailer on Carbon Seat Stays?

Not strictly a commuting question but it involves my commuting bike. I have a Specialized Sirrus Pro hybrid which has carbon forks and seat stays. I also have a bike trailer for pulling my 2 year old around in. I usually use my old hybrid bike as the tow bike but that has now been sold. Will I damage the carbon bit on my new bike by attaching the trailer to it?

I only do tame things with the child in tow so no rough terrain or major speeds.

Cheers,

Richard

If I was you I would contact Specialized; this is obviously an important safety issue. I'm not sure if the trailer you're using actually attaches to the stays themselves; if it does this would make me much more concerned - carbon's rigidity and sudden no-warning failure properties would scare me.

If the "it" in "Will I damage the carbon bit on my new bike by attaching the trailer to it?" is the bike and the trailer attaches eg to the rear axle, otoh, I don't see why should have be especially concerned - although again, contact Spec, or even the trailer manufacturer.

I would give Spesh a shout as well as it will depend on how the carbon is bonded to the rest of the frame. It may not be able to take loads from the trailer which would be outwith the normal bike load points.

I guess you'll be ok but last thing you want is Jnr going one way and you another.
