The day is clear, the hard graft is behind you, the climbs a distant memory, in front of you is the finishing line (actual or imaginary), there's just 1km to go, flat, wind behind you, glory in sight, the hitherto aching, resisting thighs now engorged with twitching muscularity as the big ring engages and the tension on the chain takes up.....

What music would you have playing to accompany you?

Sorry for having to select a song named after a swear word

an esoteric choice there! like the heat and fury but not sure it has the syncopatic regularity to ensure proper cadence control...

    The Pretender - Foo Fighters.

That said, there's a million good choices.

I generally don't like U2 but have added 'Elevation' to my cycling playlist after watching this youtube video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dYVFQ7M ... re=related - think it's quite a good tune to accompany the vid...

Foo Fighters; a good generic choice I feel but this song for me doesn't quite have the "through the threshold" surge, great tune though.

"Anything But This" by Static X.

    Two reasons:
    1. It's fairly fast
    2. It perfectly describes my state of mind.

Haven't heard this for yonks! Great tune and I'm right with you on the sentiment, but the point is we're looking for something to enthuse us over the line, when every nerve ending is screaming for rest.

Yes, but if you ignore the lyrics and focus on the drum line, you'll get there. ;)

    Ok, I'm amending to -

"Gravemakers and Gunslingers" - Coheed and Cambria.

It's fast. It's angry and has some awesome lyrics - some of which include :-

"Cause god knows I am not stopping till you breathe blood"

"Come on, its just the hurt I’m looking for"

"There’s nothing in the way that could stop us"

It certainly does a good job of helping me attack some of those painful hills....

My daughter has tried to convince me of the brilliance of Coheed and Cambria, I'm getting there, slowly, about as slowly as some of those ascents you allude to.

    Good lyrics!

tbh, I'm not as sold on some of their other stuff, but that's a pretty good track. Worth a listen!

What about you Mr Dobson? You're critical of our choices (and my climbing ability ) - what's carrying you over the last 1km...??

Don;t mean to appear critical, soz.

English Civil War - The Clash. Driving rhythm, angry lyrics, great thrashy yet classy guitar. Perfect. (Doesn't last too long either, like my sprinting!) :D

Only jesting about being critical, after commenting on my weak climbing I was more concerned to know how you knew me!!

Good track from The Clash - I reckon a 'tell us your cycling playlist' would be a good thread. I'll let someone else start it rather than put my choices up for scrutiny from the beginning!!

Symptom Of The Universe - Black Sabbath or Sepultura version.

Regarding a cycling playlist, I have already mentioned in a past post I play the 'Arise' album every day and have done so since 1992. I'm a creature of habit.

Forget awful Trance or commercial Fat Boy Slim choons. Proper Drum and Bass, 180BPM, Digital, Pendulum, Dilinja. That will get you over the line.
